Lola and the Giant

Lola and the Giant is a third and first person VR adventure game where you play as both a mysteriously powerful girl and a huge and strong stoney Giant. Switching between their unique perspectives of the world and using their individual abilities, you will solve light puzzles, encounter crazy creatures and experience a charming, fun filled romp through a visually stunning world, all in incredibly immersive VR.

The game was developed on Unity3D by a medium sized team.
I worked as a Gameplay Programmer, where I worked in the following aspects of the game:

  • Game core logic: Created a modular event system that allowed designers to work efficiently and prototype levels easily before writting the actual code for the definitive version.
  • Gameplay mechanics: Coded most of the gameplay mechanics of the game. From grabbing objects to real time cooking using motion controls, passing through a cannon shooting gallery or minecart driving.
  • AI: Created a light AI to work efficiently on a portable device, maintaining the functions needed for the game. These AIs were able to move freely around the world, fly, avoid collisions, react to other characters and even walk seemlessly attatched to walls of any shape, regardless of gravity's force direction.
  • User Interface: Linked user's actions to the menu and handled  in-game pop ups (new objectives, tutorials and so on).
  • Cutscenes: Created a system to easily configurate cutscenes and preview them on editor mode.
  • Conversations: created a conversation system that triggered events and animations just by parsing the text the designers wrote for the dialoges. (It was useful for triggering tutorial panels, character's reactions to the dialogue and more).

If you want to check the game out, just click on the game and it will take you to it's Google Play page. You will need a Daydream to play this game, though.

In any case, you can take a look at the trailer:
